The District of Columbia has a long history of converting buildings of all types into new uses. Since 2001, more than 100 conversion projects have produced 9,200+ residential units and 1,700+ hotel rooms. In the last two years, four projects were completed, adding nearly 950 residential units to the District, and 271 hotel rooms. As of December 2024, 13 more projects are under construction, adding 953 residential units, 542 hotel rooms, and over 300,000 SF of mixed-use space. Finally, an additional 21 projects are in the pipeline, representing an estimated 3,461 residential units.
