Chef Michael Friedman’s The Red Hen was select as one of America’s 100 Best Wine Restaurants (Wine Enthusiast, 2014) and Wicked Bloom Social Club and The Pub & the People were voted two of the 10 Hottest New Bars in DC (Zagat, 2015). Great Streets Retail Small Business Grants

Several streets in the area are designated Great Streets corridors. As funds become available small businesses can apply for grants to cover capital improvements and certain soft costs. In 2017, up to $50,000 was awarded per location.

Since 2010, the neighborhood has seen an abundance of new business openings, including Boundary Stone, Crisp Kitchen + Bar, DCity Smokehouse, El Camino, Meat & Foods, Old Engine 12 Restaurant, Aroi Thai, Bacio Pizzeria, Uncle Chips, Wicked Bloom Social Club, Unified Scene Theatre, Yoga District, Samasara House and ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar (DC’s first cidery).
