Great Streets Retail Small Business Grants
Kennedy Street is a designated Great Streets corridor. As funds become available small businesses can apply for grants to cover capital improvements and certain soft costs. In 2017, up to $50,000 was awarded per location.
Plans for a vacant site at 5508 7th Street call for a 28-unit residential building. DHCD has issued an RFP for 809-813 Kennedy Street. The 10,600 SF site can accommodate a four-to-five story building with retail.
Streetscape and green infrastructure improvements kicked off in October on Kennedy Street from Georgia Ave to North Capital Street and are expected to be completed in late 2017.
New Restaurants & Bars
The owners of ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar plan to open a cider production facility and bar at 711 Kennedy Street in 2017 along with a new full-service restaurant & bar from the owner of Dunya in Shaw.
Kennedy Street Entrepreneurship
Since 2013, Lost Sock Roasters, Tropimart, and Vintage Glam Tea Party & Company have opened along Kennedy Street. Meanwhile, established eateries Tony’s Place and Andrene’s Caribbean and Soul Food Carryout have refreshed their look.
