The funds will be used to significantly expand manufacturing capabilities, product development, and talent acquisition. Little Sesame plans to open a 23,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility by the end of 2025, complete with a test kitchen for product innovation and in-house High-Pressure Processing (HPP) capabilities. This new facility will increase production capabilities by 400%, to produce up to 400,000 pounds of hummus per week.

“This Series A funding marks a pivotal moment in our journey,” said Nick Wiseman, CEO and Co-Founder of Little Sesame. “We’ve always believed in the power of hummus to connect people and bring joy to everyday eating. With this investment, we’ll be able to amplify that mission through expanded innovation, team growth, and a new world-class facility that brings our culinary vision to life at scale.”

Nuli, the Lagos-based, fast-casual chain, hopes to challenge misconceptions about African cuisine, one jollof super bowl at a time — through its first U.S. location opening soon in downtown Washington.

Scheduled to round out The Square food hall (1850 K Street NW) in August, the health-food restaurant’s warm bowls and toasted wraps not only emphasize nutrient-rich African ingredients locally sourced from the DMV, but they also reflect culinary traditions across the continent’s 54 countries, including its Mediterranean and Indian influences.

[Nuli Founder, Ada ] Osakwe zeroed in on D.C., in part, to follow the same trajectory of fast-casual chains Cava and Sweetgreen. Both of them launched their businesses in the area and now operate hundreds of locations across the U.S.

Paris-base gelato chain Amorino is readying to open its first D.C. outpost in Georgetown with ambitions to expand its local footprint over time.

The Georgetown store will be located in a 2,900-square-foot space at 3401 M St. NW, in the former Georgetown Running Co. space at the corner of the busy intersection of M and 34th streets NW, said Daniela Hughes, a broker with Signet Realty Inc.

“It was a strategic location for Amorino, which seeks out prime retail corridors like M Street that offer high visibility,” Hughes said. “Georgetown has, arguably, one of the best high streets in the U.S., up there with Michigan Avenue in Chicago, where it has its flagship U.S. store.”
