Capital Insights: January 26, 2026

Office conversions have produced 1,900 residential units and 264 hotel rooms across 11 projects since 2024 …

“The program is working, it’s gaining momentum, and we’re really excited about it,” Nina Albert, D.C.’s deputy mayor for economic development and planning, said at an event Thursday announcing the launch of construction at the Geneva.

Last year turned out to be a banner one for venture capital investing in Greater Washington, particularly for companies operating in the defense and national security spheres. D.C.-area companies raised a whopping $5.4 billion in venture capital dollars during 2025, more than double the $2.4 billion raised in 2024, according to the Venture Monitor report published quarterly by PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association and released Thursday. The number of deals was also up significantly from 286 in 2024 to 323 in 2025 — though results often shift significantly following PitchBook’s regular data revisions.

… the Washington Commanders and HKS unveiled the first conceptual renderings of the team’s new, world-class stadium. The roofed stadium will be a dynamic, year-round destination for sports, entertainment and community engagement, integrating sustainable design practices and reimagining the fan experience through immersive spaces.

“These renderings give DC a lot to look forward to – a beautiful and unique waterfront stadium and the return of our Commanders; year-round events that are steps away from an entertainment district and public transportation; and, of course, jobs for DC residents and new opportunities for DC businesses,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “I’m grateful for the shared commitment from both the Commanders and HKS to designing an iconic stadium that honors the history of our city – and our skyline – while also being a true catalyst for future opportunity at the RFK campus.”
