GameOn bar+arcade, a Baltimore-based entertainment concept, is opening its first local location this fall on the U Street corridor in D.C.

The business started by the husband-and-wife team of Casey and Eli Linthicum has signed a lease for 3,400 square feet at 1330 U St. NW, which was formerly occupied by Enigma Cocktail Lounge & Wine Vault. The company’s first location outside of Maryland will have two bars, a full kitchen and space for events and parties.

“We’ve been looking in D.C. for months,” she said. “We just wanted to make sure we found the perfect spot, and then this location became available, and we thought it was the perfect fit.”

GameOn is part of a larger surge in entertainment concepts targeting adults in the DMV, including Level99 coming to Tysons Corner CenterSandbox VR coming to CityCenterDCTime Mission in Manassas and F1 Arcade in the Union Market District. Continues Arcade, featuring dozens of retro arcade games, recently opened in Alexandria.

The homegrown boutique grocery store chain has leased the former Orangetheory Fitness space at 798 Maine Ave. SW as part of a larger expansion that includes new markets at Hill East and Dupont Circle.

“We’ve long envisioned bringing a high-quality grocer to The Wharf to better serve Southwest DC’s residents and workforce, while enriching the retail experience for the 8+ million people who visit each year,” Andrew Son, CEO of District Wharf Properties, said in a statement. “Streets Market fulfills that vision perfectly. Its arrival is an exciting milestone that complements our ever-evolving mix of restaurants, shops, and services.”

Streets, which was founded in 2014, has eight D.C. stores, not counting The Wharf location and the two other planned stores at 2130 P St. NW near Dupont Circle and Hill East at 1442 Pennsylvania Ave. SE.

Garfield Investments’ bet that it could land defense tech companies at its recently acquired 300 M St. SE in Navy Yard is starting to pay off.

D.C.-based Garfield secured a nearly 22,000-square-foot lease at the building with Reliability & Performance Technologies, a Dublin, Pennsylvania-based naval and commercial maritime services contractor that is relocating into a larger space from elsewhere in the neighborhood.

Garfield CEO John Mason told me R&P’s lease brings 285,000-square-foot building to 60% occupancy, up from 53% … He’s targeting 75% occupancy in the next 24 months.

The company is currently testing its technology in the District, mapping the city’s street grid for its automated driving system. Waymo vehicles, which look like regular cars but operate without drivers, have been spotted throughout the city, including on 16th Street in Northwest on Thursday.

“Our hope is to serve riders next year,” said Ethan Teicher, Waymo spokesperson. “We provide 250,000 trips every week. We drive about 2 million fully autonomous miles every week, and we just want to bring this technology and the benefits to D.C.”
