Immersive virtual reality experience Tidal Force VR says it is looking at D.C. for its next outpost.
The New York company, which has spaces in Manhattan’s Flatiron District and Philadelphia’s Center City, said Monday it is “actively exploring” D.C. for its next phase of expansion.
“Washington, D.C. stands out as a market with a strong mix of residents, visitors, students, professionals and group-event demand,“ CEO Jerome Champigny said in a statement. ”We believe the city is a natural match for the kind of shared, high-energy entertainment experiences we build.”
The global labor and employment law firm signed a lease last month to relocate to 24,000 square feet at 1776 Eye St. NW, according to a spokesperson, increasing its footprint from the 19,630 square feet it has occupied at 1909 K since 2011.
“For everything we love about our city—our great schools, parks, transportation, arts, culture, and restaurants—they require us to have robust revenues to make robust investments,” said Mayor Bowser. “For that, we need a pro-growth budget, which we are delivering with Grow DC.”
To keep DC competitive and ensure the city’s strong economic future, the Grow DC budget reduces the cost of doing business by lowering business-related fees, supports major redevelopment projects through targeted incentives, and continues to invest in grant programs to help our small businesses thrive.
According to contract materials filed with the council, the Commanders’ affiliate, RFK Builder LLC, developed plans and specifications for the storm sewer relocation, which the District will buy for $1.11 million. RFK Builder LLC, deemed “the Developer” in contract documents, will then provide the services to construct the new sewer “at a cost to the District that shall not exceed” $48.7 million.
The sewer work is just one tiny piece of the massive 174-acre RFK campus redevelopment, to be anchored by a 70,000-seat domed stadium and its parking garages. The stadium, expected to open in 2030, will be followed by broader mixed-use development across the campus.
