DC Stories: The Spice Suite

Learn how this spice shop is bringing playful flavor and cookware to the District.

Part spice shop and part dream incubator is how The Spice Suite owner Angel Anderson describes the shop that has called Takoma home since 2015. Over the past five years, the shop has grown beyond just the jars of blends sold in-store. The store serves as a pop up space for Black-owned small businesses to showcase products, with a vibrant community of creatives and makers featured in the Spicegirlin’ Marketplace.

Since the pandemic hit, Angel focused on creating a lasting business that wouldn’t be confined to the physical bounds of the store. The result? A monthly SpiceBox (always fresh, and released at the beginning of each month) and line of high-quality cookware that are both available for purchase on the shop’s website. However, customers are still encouraged to visit The Spice Suite safely in-person to access the full scope of flavors and accoutrements Angel has created!
