Passionate about bringing good health through good food to her neighbors, Amanda Stephenson decided to do something about the visible gap in access to healthy and fresh foods in Anacostia. Her efforts culminate into The Fresh Food Factory—a social enterprise with many facets that work holistically to address food equity. Starting off as an urban farming operation and educational resource, The Fresh Food Factory has grown to encompass a heath foods market that provides affordably priced local products and produce to the community.
With the pandemic hitting hard, Amanda saw an opportunity to provide support through the market. By partnering with United Nation of Individuals Fighting Impossibilities (UNIFI), the Fresh Food Factory has been able to put together Corona Care Boxes. These boxes are filled with nutritious fare for anyone who needs it. Distribution occurs weekly and donations are encouraged to support these continued efforts!
Incubated and located in the Anacostia Arts Center, an initiative of ARCH Development, The Fresh Food Factory market is open for safe shopping in the heart of Anacostia. See what else is going on at The Fresh Food Factory through Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter!
