There is some precedent for street racing in D.C. through the 2002 Cadillac Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., which was an American Le Mans Series sports car event touted as the first sanctioned motor race in the nation’s capital in 80 years. That event took place around RFK Stadium. Last year, the Red Bull Showrun — a showcase for the Formula One racing team — touched down on Pennsylvania Avenue in D.C. for a one-off demo.
Stanford University is opening a satellite office for its public policy think tank in downtown D.C.
The university purchased a nearly 10K SF office building at 1128 16th St. NW for $9M in November, according to D.C. deed records. And now it is asking for zoning approval to convert the building to institutional use for the university’s Hoover Institution.
“At a time when downtown Washington is struggling to attract businesses and institutions, and downtown buildings are losing tenants, the Hoover Institution will buck the trend and invest in the District,” the university said in its application with D.C.’s Board of Zoning Adjustment filed this week.
Phasecraft, a U.K. quantum computing company with a growing D.C. presence, said Tuesday it has raised a $34 million Series B to boost research and development.

The parent company of First National Bank of Pennsylvania will open 30 new branches outside its home state over the next five years.
