WDCEP’s programs bring and keep top businesses talent in DC.

Our programs focus on attracting and retaining new businesses and development projects to the District. Our signature programs include national and local events and activations to attract top tech companies, start-ups and new retail & office space. WDCEP’s programs also focus on providing business assistance specifically with business fundamentals in DC and site location assistance.

Our Programs

WDCEP leads the WeDC Campaign, Washington, DC’s presence at SXSW, to support its tech sector, startups, and foster new partnerships.

The multi-day activation works to highlight DC as the Capital of Inclusive Innovation and showcases the local side of DC.

Past success of efforts by WDCEP in partnership with the District government:

  • Most sold out concert SXSW has ever seen held at ACL Live with headliners Wu Tang Clan and Thievery Corporation (SXSW + ACL Live, 2017)
  • #1 digital campaign in ‘reach’ and ‘engagement’ at SXSW compared to industry leaders like Google, Snapchat, Esurance, and more, (Ad Age 2016)
  • Coverage in over 80 national, local and international publications including Forbes, Bloomberg, and The Washington Post
ICSC

WDCEP leads Washington, DC’s retail attraction efforts at the International Council of Shopping Centers’ (ICSC) annual meeting (RECon).

Each year, Washington, DC joins more than 33,000 retail real estate professionals to highlight the city as a primary growth market to the nation’s retail development community. The convention provides the city with valuable face time with investors, brokers, and retailers.

Past success of efforts by WDCEP in partnership with the District government:

  • 250+ retailers & restaurants have chosen to locate in DC due to our efforts at ICSC. This represents 12,000+ jobs, $94 million in annual sales tax revenue and 3.9 million SF of leases
  • WDCEP and District government regularly conducts 70+ meetings with retailers and developers from across the nation.
  • Attendance at ICSC conferences has led to major deals with large retailers including Harris Teeter, Target, Best Buy, Trader Joes, among many others.
DC Biz Chat

DC Biz Chat Speaker Series is a program of the Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP) to support its small business and entrepreneurship initiative.

An asset for both start-ups and existing businesses, Washington, DC entrepreneurs and business owners will gain access to industry leaders in the city and have the opportunity to network with panelists and other attendees.

In partnership with the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Planning and Economic Development and Capital One Bank, DC Biz Chat is aimed at educating future and current business owners on the best practices for conducting business in the District of Columbia and offers in-person guidance on how to start, expand, and marketing your DC business via a qualified speaker panel.

Celebrate DC’s Business Community

Each year, WDCEP brings together 800+ public and private sector leaders to celebrate the growth of DC at our Annual Meeting and ECON Showcase. This event brings together local businesses, government agencies and decision makers across the DC business ecosystem to connect and reflect on the impact that WDCEP has helped make on the city.
