WMATA Offers Development Opportunities
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is offering developers the opportunity to to develop WMATA-owned or controlled property.
With over 50 joint development projects, WMATA has the most active property development program in the country. For example, the Anacostia-Congress Heights station provides 0.9 acres and is in an area that the District Government has targeted for massive investment, including the mixed use redevelopment of part of the adjacent St. Elizabeth’s Hospital campus.
Other properties available for development in the District include the Northern Bus Garage, Shaw/Howard University, Congress Heights and the Chevy Chasse/Friendship Heights-Western Bus Garage. The redevelopment of properties extends into Maryland and Virginia.
WMATA seeks proposals that display smart growth principles, reduce automobile dependency and enhance the surrounding area’s connection to the transit station. Proposals are due by Friday, November 18, 2005. For more information on these and other development proposals, visit
