WDCEP Tapped for Special Achievement in GIS Award for Monthly Map Series
Geographic Information System Provider Esri to Present Award at Annual User Conference
July 9, 2018 (Washington, DC) The Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP) will be presented with Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the annual Esri User Conference in San Diego, California on July 11, 2018. WDCEP has been selected by Esri, the global leader in spatial analytics, from over 300,000 eligible candidates for their innovative application of mapping, data analytics, and thought leadership in the field of economic development for their reoccurring ‘Map of the Month’ series.
WDCEP’s monthly map series are used to highlight expansion opportunities and offer resources for business owners, investors, and entrepreneurs. Each map focuses on a specific subject matter such as real estate development, retail & restaurants, and technology while showcasing DC’s neighborhoods with adaptations such as:
- Grocery Store Expansion in DC
- 70+ Coworking Spaces in DC
- Neighborhood Development
- Tech Companies in DC
“What started out as a snapshot for specific retail opportunities has expanded into several industry sectors as a strategically maintained resource for business attraction and retention activities throughout the city,” said Chad Shuskey, Senior Vice President of Research and Real Estate, at WDCEP.
The SAG Awards are meant to show appreciation for organizations that are using GIS to solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. Through “The Science of Where” – the technology of GIS combined with the science of geography – the users honored with these awards are demonstrating the most groundbreaking and transformative possibilities of GIS software.
“Esri User Conference is a great forum for our users to come together and share the amazing ways they are implementing GIS technology,” said Jack Dangermond, Founder, and President of Esri. “The organizations recognized here are creating maps and using spatial analytics to make a difference in the world. We are honored to present these awards.”
The Washington DC Economic Partnership was one of over 180 organizations in areas such as commercial industry, defense, transportation, non-profit work, telecommunications, and government to receive a SAG Award. Esri staff annually nominate hundreds of candidates from around the world for consideration and Dangermond selects the finalists.
“Anytime we can incorporate technology to promote Washington, DC is something we aspire to do,” said Keith Sellars, President & CEO of WDCEP. “The map of the month series is a culmination of hard work and methodically leveraging the power of data and analytics as a resource to support economic development drivers in the city,” continued Sellars.
The “Map of the Month” series is maintained by Washington DC Economic Development’s Senior Vice President of Research and Real Estate, Chad Shuskey, and Research Analyst, Veronica Miniello.
