WDCEP Tackles Business Licensing and Registration at February Entrepreneur Road Map

The WDCEP held its second Entrepreneur Road Map session last month, focusing on the business licensing and registration process for business owners. The Entrepreneur Roadmap Series is an initiative with the purpose of guiding business owners on the intricacies of doing business in the District of Columbia.
The session was held at Venable, LLP with a strong attendance from DC’s business owners and entrepreneurs. Department of Consumers and Regulatory Affairs Administrator Eric Rogers guided attendees through the District’s business licensing and registration process including how to navigate the DCRA’s website and the numerous resources the DCRA offers business owners in DC.
Licensing Specialist Karen Jackson from the Alcohol Beverage Regulatory Administration (ABRA) encouraged entrepreneurs to “do your homework” before applying for a liquor license. Jackson discussed important measures to take before, after and throughout the process of obtaining a license for various types of establishments.
Bicycle Space Founder Erik Kugler shared his personal experience with the business licensing and registration process. Kugler spoke of his personal story as a business owner and praised the District’s resources that assist and support business owners and entrepreneurs like himself. Bicycle Space opened in Washington, DC in August 2010 and has already been selected as the best bike shop by The Washington City Paper’s 2012 Best of DC reader’s poll in addition to being named a Top 100 Retailer nation-wide.
