WDCEP Honors Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton with Award
At the WDCEP’s 2013 Annual Meeting & Development Showcase on November 15th held at the Washington Convention Center, the honorable Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton was presented with the Economic Development Leadership Award. Congresswoman Norton was recognized for her contributions to support the economic growth of the District of Columbia.
The WDCEP’s Annual Meeting and Development Showcase is the Partnership’s largest event of the year that provides an overview of real estate and economic development activities in the District, including projects that are proposed, planned, under construction, and newly completed. Many of the projects that were showcased at this event have only come to fruition because of the Congresswoman’s support. The meeting is a platform to celebrate the $85 billion of economic development activity occurring throughout the District.
Congresswoman Norton’s accomplishments on behalf of DC include funding and legislation that supported projects such as the Southwest Waterfront, the Southeast Federal Center, the new Coast Guard Headquarters at St. Elizabeths West Campus, and for the U.S. Department of Transportation and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Her efforts have also resulted in millions of dollars for infrastructure improvements and development including the 11th Street Bridge, the NoMa Metro Station, the Redevelopment of Union Station and upgrades to the Washington Metrorail system.
