April 3, 2014

The WDCEP in collaboration with the Government of the District of Columbia lead a strategic spaces tour of Ward 7 during the “Start It in 7: Ward 7 Entrepreneurship Week.” Start It In 7 was a week-long series of events and programming hosted by the Office of the Deputy Mayor of Economic Planning and Development which focused on job training/placement, small business development, and the development of high quality, diverse retail offerings in Ward 7. The bus tour showcased upcoming development sites and available spaces in Ward 7 to an audience of local and out-of-town entrepreneurs, brokers, and community leaders.

The tour highlighted existing spaces along Minnesota Avenue, NE, Benning Rd S.E, East Capitol S.E, including the Strand Theater, the Park 7 mixed-use development, Penn Branch Shopping Center, as well as the Skyland Town Center .

New public and private investments are creating new opportunities all across the communities of Ward 7. In the Minnesota & Benning neighborhood, two Metrorail stations form the transportation hub for a variety of financial institutions, grocery stores, government offices and residential and retail developments. Donatelli Development, A. Wash & Associates and A&R Development are just a few of the developers putting more investment into these high-demand neighborhoods, with retailers such as Subway, Walmart, and Safeway already taking advantage of these opportunities.
