Washington, D.C.—Dr. Richard Florida, social theorist and author of The Rise of the Creative Class and The Flight of the Creative Class, will present the keynote address at the Washington, DC Economic Partnership’s Annual Meeting luncheon on Tuesday, October 17, 2006.
According to Dr. Florida, “human creativity is the engine of economic growth. The dynamic nature of creative class workers seeks not only fulfilling jobs, but also tolerant and vibrant communities and cities.” With a growing creative class, ranging from students and professors to chefs, artists and local entrepreneurs, the District of Columbia is rapidly evolving toward Dr. Florida’s theory.
“Richard Florida was the ideal choice of keynote speaker for the Economic Partnership,” says Steve Moore, President and CEO. “Our organization works to promote the District as the premiere destination for retailers, businesses and residents. The pace of the District’s economic revitalization over the past six years has attracted investment of not only financial but also intellectual capital. These intellectual influences are seen on a daily basis throughout the District; from the emergence of unique local and independent businesses to cutting edge plays performed in local theaters. The District is becoming a creative community.”
The DC Development Showcase, which precedes the Annual Meeting luncheon, illustrates the investment in the District’s economic revitalization. This showcase is the only exhibition that highlights development activity taking place throughout the District of Columbia. Exhibitions will feature projects currently under construction, in addition to those planned, proposed and recently completed. Projects on display include retail, residential, mixed-use and office developments.
