The Word is Out… DC is the Place to do Business!

Last month, WDCEP and DC government spent some time at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Global Retail Real Estate Convention (RECon), where the District’s booth was hopping with activity.  Not only was attendance up conference wide (at 30,200 attendees, up from last year’s count of 28,700), but WDCEP and the District hosted 90 meetings (up from 70, last year) with retailers interested in making DC their next move.

Who is making the move first? Drum roll, please…it’s Walmart, which will be bringing stores to the District in five locations.  Meetings were also held with industry grocery stores, retailers like Darden Restaurant Group as well as other QSRs, and movie chains.  Promising announcements made at the conference came from 7-Eleven Inc., which plans to add another 35 stores in the Mid-Atlantic region over the next two years, and from Starbucks Coffee Company, which will open a second location in Union Station.
