Target to Come to DC

Discount giant Target announced in October that it will open its first store in the District. The retailer has agreed to purchase land at 14th Street and Park Road in the Columbia Heights neighborhood as a part of the DC USA project.

The deal includes $42 million in public financing, part of which will be used to build a parking garage with space for 1000 vehicles. Target expects to break ground on the site in the spring with an opening date slated for 2007. District officials expect that the new store could create 500 construction jobs in addition to 1,000 permanent jobs.
