WASHINGTON, DC (February 6, 2015) – The Washington, DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP) is taking Washington, D.C. to Austin, Texas for SXSW 2015. From March 13 to March 17, Washington, D.C. will be holding court to tell the “We DC” story of the Washington’s business, tech, and creative communities.
In an effort to promote the District as a start-up friendly business community for technology companies and to celebrate its upcoming presence in Austin, WDCEP today announces its “Live Free in DC” contest. For three months, Washington, D.C. will host one start-up technology company to build their dream in the nation’s capital. From housing and workspace to culinary and cultural experiences, D.C. invites entrepreneurs to see what it’s like to turn a vision into a reality with a little help from the District of Columbia. The selected winner will receive travel to the District, three months of housing, workspace accommodations, and a variety of entertainment packages so that they can experience all that Washington, D.C. has to offer.
Nominating companies must be a tech start up that is currently not operating around or within the greater Washington, D.C. region and must have confirmed attendance to SXSW 2015. For additional information on the “Live Free in DC” contest, please visit http://wedc2015.com/dc-sxsw-competition/.
During SXSW, Washington, DC’s We DC House will be located across from the Austin Convention Center at 340 East 2nd Street in Austin – where the majority of the technology portion of the conference will be held. Throughout the five-day activation, the We DC House will be host to a recharge lounge for DC-based and other SXSW attendees, panel discussions, a DC Startup Showcase, a DC Musician Meetup, and an evening celebration honoring DC talent, businesses, and partners attending SXSW.
The goals of the We DC House at SXSW include branding DC as a national technology hub; exposing entrepreneurs, talent, and investors to opportunities in DC; building relationships with out-of-town investors; and bringing the DC tech and creative community together. The third year down to SXSW, this will be the first year that DC will also be highlighting the creative economy sectors of Washington, D.C. Together with SXSW, Washington, D.C. will be hosting an official SXSW “DC Music Showcase” honoring the GoGo music genre and DC based artists. The full schedule line up will be announced in late February.
