The Redevelopment of Saint Elizabeths East
Saint Elizabeths was one of the nation’s earliest institutions for the treatment of mental illness and the first federally-funded mental hospital in the country. This story map will examine the history of Saint Elizabeth’s, how ownership of the land was split between the Federal Government and the city of DC, and the robust redevelopment plans that are currently ongoing and planned for the Saint Elizabeth East campus. This map was published in July 2020.
