Operation HOPE is Open for Business
On Wednesday, May 4, more than 600 people celebrated the opening of Operation Hope located on Good Hope Road in Southeast DC, the newest of seven Operation Hope Centers in the U.S.
Operation Hope is a national non-profit self-help organization that seeks to bring economic self-sufficiency and a sustained spirit of revitalization to America’s inner city communities.
The Washington, DC Hope Center will connect area residents seeking home mortgages and business loans with banks that provide access to capital. Traditionally, residents in lower-income neighborhoods have faced difficulties securing loans. The new Hope Center will also offer residents free financial seminars, access to state-of-the-art ATMs and online banking.
Attending the event were Mayor Williams, civil rights leader Dr. Dorothy Height, U.S. HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson, DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and members of DC City Council and the District Government.
The event concluded with a bus tour of Wards 7 and 8, which included historic landmarks, new housing developments, Anacostia Park and THE ARC
The Washington, DC Marketing Center is especially pleased to welcome Operation HOPE to the city. The Marketing Center assisted the organization with their DC location search back in October 2003 and connected them with partners in economic development such as the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation, e-BIC and several District agencies.
