McCarthy Named Interim Planning Director

In January, Ellen McCarthy, the District’s former Deputy Planning Director for Neighborhood Planning and Development Review, was named interim Planning Director for the District.

Her appointment fills the void created by the departure of Andy Altman who now heads the Anacostia Waterfront Corporation.

McCarthy has over thirty years of experience in planning and served as the Director of Planning and Land Use Services with the law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller, & Ciresi prior to joining the District government.

McCarthy holds a master’s degree in city planning from Harvard University.
