Mayor’s 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program

The Mayor’s 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) will place District youth in a variety of employment opportunities in the District. Those opportunities span several broad categories, which include “Green Summer”, “Summer School / Enrichment”, Federal Agencies, The Department of Parks and Recreation’s Summer Programs, and Private Sector employment. The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (“ODMPED”) will be spearheading the 2009 Private Sector phase of SYEP.

One goal of the Mayor’s 2009 Summer Youth Employment Program is to place 1,000 youth in private sector opportunities for summer 2009. As a DC employer or business, you can assist the District of Columbia achieve this goal by volunteering to participate in this mutually beneficial program. Interested businesses can attend a brief training session for the SYEP HR Software (this software will streamline the method through which employers can select and pay prospective SYEP youth). Interested businesses also have the flexibility to set selection criteria for any youth from ages 14-21.
