GLBT Summit Recap

Over 120 people attended the second annual GLBT Summit held on Saturday, November 15, in Washington DC. Dr. Alice Rivlin, Senior Fellow, Metropolitan Policy Program, Economic Studies and Director, Greater Washington Research at the Brookings Institution received a standing ovation after her keynote address, “The Future of Economic Development in DC” in which she presented a sweeping and fascinating economic history of DC spanning 160 years. She addressed the reemergence of the downtown, housing, the current financial crisis, the Control Board, DC Schools, city leadership and her views about the next 14 months.

This GLBT Summit is one of the largest of its kind in the country. The conference is planned by the Washington, DC Economic Partnership, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, the Mayor’s Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered (GLBT) Affairs, the Department of Small and Local Business Development and PEN-DC, Metro DC’s LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
