District Leaders Come Together at WDCEP’s 2012 Annual Meeting & Development Showcase

On December 4th at the Washington Convention Center, over 650 people gathered to attend WDCEP’s 2012 Annual Meeting and Development Showcase (AMDS12). This year’s event showcased over $80 billion of investment in development projects throughout the city, celebrated the Partnership’s eleven years of marketing DC as the premier location to do business, and challenged District leaders to be creative and work together to move the District’s economy forward.

The half-day program began with the popular Development Showcase which featured over 50 exhibitors that collectively provided a comprehensive overview of real estate development activity in the District, including projects planned and under construction, as well as recently completed.

Following the Development Showcase, the WDCEP’s Annual Meeting featured a great lineup of speakers, including opening remarks by Mayor Vincent C. Gray, remarks by Deputy Mayor Victor Hoskins, and the keynote address provided by Former Mayor of Washington, DC and current CEO of Federal City Council, Anthony “Tony” Williams. Former Mayor Williams’ spoke on how domestic funds are being used to support infrastructure projects abroad and the need for DC to utilize public-private partnerships to attract some of that investment to the city.

This year, the WDCEP released one of its most popular publications at the Annual Meeting: the DC Development Report: 2012/2013 Edition. The DC Development Report is a summary of the major development and construction projects in the District of Columbia. The WDCEP has tracked this data since 2001, creating a comprehensive database that helps to benchmark investment and development in the city. The Report summarizes the entire database of projects while key development projects.
