DC to Host Sixth Annual EcoDistricts Summit

May 7, 2014

This September 24-26, the District of Columbia and surrounding region will host the sixth annual EcoDistricts Summit, a unique gathering of the world’s most innovative city makers. Join us as we explore district-scale development from every angle and dig deep into the public-private-civic partnerships that are laying the groundwork for the neighborhoods of the future: healthy, vibrant, sustainable, and just.

Each year, the Summit’s host city provides a programmatic element to the conference. More than a mere site, the conference region serves as host, curriculum and teacher. In 2014, the Washington region’s active projects (SW EcoDistrict, Downtown EcoDistrict, Walter Reed Army Medical Center reuse plan, Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, and more) will create an incredible opportunity to explore how community-driven sustainability works across different contexts.

Sustainable neighborhoods are emerging in cities worldwide, and the Summit willfeature information-rich education sessions, keynotes, and workshopsdesigned to share field reports and test emerging best practices from North America and beyond. Of course, there will also be plenty of opportunities for thoughtful networking and informal conversations.

Participants will come away with a clear sense of the state of the movement, a new community of fellow practitioners, and the inspiration to go back to their own communities and start making change from the neighborhood up.
