Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton to Receive Economic Development Leadership Award
Washington DC Economic Partnership Applauds Congresswoman for Her Contributions to the Capital City

Washington, DC – November 13, 2013   The Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP) is pleased to announce that the honorable Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton will be receiving the Economic Development Leadership Award. Congresswoman Norton is being recognized for her contributions to support the economic growth of the District of Columbia. The award will be presented at the WDCEP 2013 Annual Meeting and Development Showcase on November 15, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The WDCEP’s Annual Meeting and Development Showcase is the WDCEP’s largest event of the year that provides an overview of real estate and economic development activities in the District, including projects that are proposed, planned, under construction, and newly completed. Many of the projects that will be showcased at this event have only come to fruition because of the Congresswoman’s support. The meeting is a platform to celebrate the $85 billion of economic development activity occurring throughout the District.

““It is a true honor to present this award to Congresswoman Norton whose efforts on behalf of DC have been tireless,” said Keith Sellars, President and CEO of the WDCEP. Congresswoman Norton’s efforts have resulted in more than $10 billion dollars of investment, over 20,000 jobs created or retained, and several million square feet of development. “I cannot think of a better audience to celebrate the Congresswoman’s efforts, many of the whom have worked with her to make this a truly amazing city,” said Sellars.

Congresswoman Norton’s accomplishments on behalf of DC include funding and legislations that supported projects such as Southwest Waterfront, the Southeast Federal Center, the new Coast Guard Headquarters at St. Elizabeths West Campus, and for the U.S. Department of Transportation and Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Her efforts have also resulted in millions of dollars for infrastructure improvements and development including the 11th Street Bridge, the NoMa Metro Station, the Redevelopment of Union Station and upgrades to the Washington Metrorail system.

“Congresswoman Norton is a fearless and effective legislator who stands out as one of the District’s best champions,” said Victor L. Hoskins, Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development, for the District of Columbia. “During her 22 years in Congress, she has been determined, and has succeeded to make this city a place where people want to live and businesses want to invest and really shine as the Nation’s Capital,” said Hoskins.
