Cisco Systems Inc. has doubled the size of its D.C. office at The Wharf to create a showcase for its brand and products, part of a growing trend for the technology sector in the District.

The San Jose, California-based telecommunications and networking equipment manufacturer expanded its existing 12,000 square foot lease at 1000 Maine Ave. SW, which until this point has been used to house the firm’s government affairs and sales teams, to 24,000 square feet, according to company representatives.

“With D.C.’s vibrant talent pool and as a growing tech hub, we’re committed to expanding our local footprint, investing in this key market and creating new opportunities to showcase the value of our technology,” the company said in a statement.

PhoXotic, a Vietnamese restaurant at 103 Rhode Island Ave. NW from chef Hai Le, and Your Only Friend, a gastropub at 1114 Ninth St. NW near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, secured Bib Gourmand status, a recognition for eateries offering great food at great value. They are two of a longer list of eight new D.C. restaurants added to the guide for 2025.

The guide also gave out five special awards, including one to D.C.’s José Andrés. The chef and global humanitarian, who wasn’t present to accept, was honored with a Michelin Mentor Chef Award for his contributions to the culinary industry.

The Hill Rag reported Thursday that Pittsburgh-based Chatman Holdings pitched plans for a casino and hotel development on one of the last parcels at DC’s Reservation 13 development to ANC 7F earlier this week. The presentation provided to UrbanTurf outlined a casino that would rise 10 stories at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue SE and Water Street (map), and feature a full-service grocery store, movie theater and bowling alley, in addition to an amphitheater and ice rink along the water.
