Anacostia Gateway Groundbreaking

On June 28, 2005, the historic Anacostia neighborhood made history once again, as the Anacostia Gateway office building broke ground, the first new commercial construction since 1990.

Located at the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Good Hope Road, SE, the Anacostia Gateway building will be highly visible to those crossing the 11th Street Bridge. The new three-story, 63,000 square foot office building will offer 14,000 square feet of retail space, 49,000 square feet of Class A office and related space, and 112 sub-grade parking spaces. The project will provide an additional economic boost to Anacostia, as approximately 75 temporary construction jobs will be created for area residents. Retail stores opening in Anacostia Gateway plan to employ nearly 45 local residents on a permanent basis.

The National Capital Revitalization Corporation (NCRC) worked with Anacostia Gateway LLC, and its members, the Anacostia Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) and the DRI Partners (DRI), to bring much needed new office and retail space to East Washington. NCRC is investing nearly $1 million and is committing an additional $21.5 million in master lease rental income over the next ten years to support the office building.

Construction for the $19 million development is expected to be completed late summer/early fall 2006.
