The Washington, DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP) announces the release of its 2016 edition of DC Neighborhood Profile, which debuted at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic International Council of Shopping Center conference at Gaylord National.
Each year, WDCEP provides updated demographics of 54 identified business corridors of Washington, DC including population, households, income, age, and consumer expenditures. It also spotlights key neighborhood insights such as total number of grocery stores, residential units, new and upcoming retail anchors, and investment opportunities.
37% of DC households do not own a car.
Findings from the 2016 publication revealed the following about DC:
New data on car ownership in Washington, DC:
- 37% of DC households do not own a car; 44% own only 1 car
Updated business openings in DC neighborhoods:
- Owners of ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar plan to open a cider production facility along Kennedy Street
- In 2016, five new restaurants are expected to open along Upshur Street, NW
- In 2015, there were 40 retailers/restaurants that opened in Shaw
- More than 25 new businesses opened in Anacostia in 2015

- H Street retailer Maketto made GQ Magazine’s 100 Best Denim & Casual Shops in America list in 2015.
- Roofers Union’s Chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley was a finalist on Top Chef (Fall 2015)
“Each year, this publication provides an overview of the diversity of various DC neighborhoods and commercial corridors. We are excited each year to provide insight into the very fabric of Washington, DC’s neighborhoods. Mr. Shuskey has led the research for the publication since its inception in 2001.
The purpose of the DC Neighborhood Profiles is to focus on the commercial corridors and business districts in DC. The Neighborhood Profiles are used by investors and local community based organizations to market their neighborhoods. WDCEP works with various partners from the public and private sector to update the Neighborhood Profiles, including the Office of Planning and Economic Development, the Office of Planning, and the Department of Small & Local Business Development.
