Chad Hall is Changing the Home Improvement Game with RemodelMate

If you’ve ever tried to tackle a remodeling project yourself, you know the struggles of finding the right vendors, staying on time and within budget. Product specialist turned real estate tech entrepreneur Chad Malcolm Hall, created a company to help solve these problems with his company RemodelMate. We sat down with Chad, originally from New York and a graduate of University of Maryland, to learn more about the history and vision for RemodelMate.

“I got so many calls from friends and family members asking for my opinion to make sure that they were not overpaying [for remodeling services] that I realized there was a problem. There seemed to be a lot of distrust of contractors and I set out to change that,” Mr. Hall explains, describing the motivation for RemodelMate.

Somewhere between full down DIY and paid renovations, RemodelMate has reimagined the concept of “do it yourself” to “do it together”. RemodelMate is not just a referral site for home projects, this technology is an interactive platform that fills the void left by local service marketplaces and traditional contracting companies who are, traditionally, not transparent about their pricing or billing process

Chad saw that this lack of communication and support created frustration for homeowners and they would, ultimately, be overpaying for services.

Where other sites act as directories for projects, RemodelMate aims to provide more by helping you find someone quickly, and also providing project management services – from concept to completion. RemodelMate’s platform eliminates inefficiencies that exist with general contracting companies to create a faster and simpler experience. Not only does RemodelMate offer a faster and simpler way to conduct business, but it also offers a personalized touch. All of the vendors and contractors featured are hand-picked and given a stamp of approval, based on a set of consistent criteria. Most of the companies have  pre-established, on-going relationships with RemodelMate, as well – a key component of the effectiveness of their approach.

RemodelMate has been in DC for 2 years now and they have experienced 20% month-over-month growth.

Hall states that DC has proven to be the place to start and maintain a business for many reasons. The target customer base—high earning millennials looking to invest in fixer-upper homes—are a big part of the DC population. Chad also cited DC’s tight knit tech scene and collaborative community as a reason he’s continued to call DC home.

So what’s next for RemodelMate?

With RemodelMate continuously growing, they are looking to keep expanding their footprint and growing their user base. Surveys say that homeowners are most likely to renovate once every 7 years, so they are looking to retain a lot of repeat customers, something that has already proven very plausible with 82% of their current customers already saying that they would be distraught if RemodelMate were to ever go out of business. With a marketplace as sufficient as continuous home improvement, RemodelMate is also looking to gain investors as well as scale to New York and Chicago.

RemodelMate is an innovative and user-friendly technology that is in high demand. Chad’s vision for his company has exceeded expectations for the DC community.
